Spring cleaning offers the perfect opportunity to give your kitchen appliances thorough attention. Beyond aesthetics, proper cleaning extends lifespan and maintains performance.

Start with your refrigerator. Remove all contents and clean shelves, drawers, and walls with a mild baking soda solution. Pay attention to door gaskets where mold can develop unnoticed.

Clean condenser coils, typically located behind or beneath the unit. Use a coil brush or vacuum attachment to remove dust accumulation that reduces efficiency.

Empty and clean the ice bin. Old ice absorbs freezer odors and can develop an off taste. Sanitize the bin before returning it to service.

For ovens, avoid harsh chemical cleaners on high-end ranges. Many premium brands recommend specific cleaning products. The self-cleaning cycle can be used but schedule it well before heavy cooking needs.

Clean range hood filters thoroughly. Grease-laden filters reduce ventilation effectiveness and create fire hazards. Most metal filters can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

Dishwasher interiors benefit from monthly cleaning cycles with specialized dishwasher cleaner or vinegar. Remove and scrub the filter, spray arms, and door gasket.

Wine coolers and beverage centers need interior cleaning similar to refrigerators. Clean door gaskets carefully, as these units are particularly sensitive to seal quality.

Pull out appliances from their positions if possible. Clean the floor underneath and check for pest activity, leaks, or damaged connections.

Inspect water supply lines to ice makers, refrigerators, and dishwashers. Replace any that show cracking, bulging, or discoloration.

Document any concerns discovered during cleaning. Spring is an ideal time to schedule professional maintenance to address issues before summer demands peak.
