Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Identify the Leak Location

Determine where the water is coming from: under the refrigerator, inside the fresh food section, inside the freezer, or from the water dispenser area. This helps narrow down the cause.

Place paper towels in different areas to pinpoint exactly where water accumulates.
2

Check the Drip Pan

Locate the drip pan at the bottom of the refrigerator (usually behind a kick plate). Check if it's overflowing, cracked, or not positioned correctly. The pan should evaporate water naturally.

If the pan constantly overflows, there may be a sealed system issue causing excessive condensation.
3

Clear the Defrost Drain

Inside the freezer, locate the defrost drain (usually at the bottom back). If it's clogged with ice or debris, water from defrost cycles will leak inside. Use warm water and a pipe cleaner to clear it.

Pour a cup of warm water down the drain to confirm it's flowing properly into the pan.
4

Inspect Water Supply Line

Pull the refrigerator out and check the water supply line connection. Look for drips, loose fittings, or damaged tubing. Tighten connections or replace damaged line.

Turn off the water supply valve before disconnecting any water lines.
5

Check Door Seals

Worn door seals allow humid air to enter, causing excessive condensation and frost buildup that leads to leaks when it melts. Inspect seals for gaps or damage.

A failing door seal often creates a puddle specifically in front of the refrigerator.
6

Inspect Ice Maker Water Line

If you have an ice maker, check the fill tube and supply line for leaks. A cracked fitting or loose connection can cause water to drip inside the freezer.

Ice or frost buildup around the ice maker often indicates a slow water leak.
7

Check Water Filter Housing

Inspect the water filter housing for cracks or improper filter installation. A filter not seated correctly can cause water to bypass and leak.

Try removing and reinstalling the filter to ensure proper seating.
